The rule

Food picks aren’t for sale. No restaurant can pay its way into the picker, into Our take, or into a We Went verdict. Paid things are always labeled AD or SPONSORED, and they only show up in their own spots.

How the pick is made

• We start with the active places in the neighborhood you chose.
• We keep the ones that match your food chip. Anything means all of them.
• We keep the ones open right now, in Los Angeles time. Places whose hours we don’t know yet still count.
• We lean away from the last few picks this phone has seen, so you don’t get the same place twice in a row.
• Then it’s random, inside those rules.

If nothing fits, we’ll say so and suggest Anything or another neighborhood. No ratings math. No paid weight. No Partner weight. Ever.
